Working continuously for an extended period of time sitting isn't really good for health. Must stretch our legs every now and then.

One good option is to work standing at times.

After a lot of research, bought one, and it has been having a positive impact on overall working experience not just for me but other households as well.

Electric vs Other Desks

Indeed, Electric Desks are not cheap. On the other hand, the manual desk needs us to keep rotating the lever, every time we change our mind.

It has been over 3 years since I had bought an electric standing desk and so far it has been performing the same way from Day One.

I got my desk from Monarch, which had a dimension of 1800mm (W) x 700mm (D), comfortable enough for two people to work simultaneously.

And surprisingly, they were the only player who was offering a 10 year warranty unlike others where the max I have seen is only 3 years.

Capabilities

Since it is a three stage lift and the table being really long, it is essential that it is supported by two motors, one on each side and it did.

Ensure that the desk has an Anti Collision Detection mechanism, which when it accidentally hits an object with the operator not being aware, instead of further proceeding in the same direction, it shall retreat a bit and stops. This will safe guard the motors, desk and in some cases people, if the object been hit was a person.

Overheat protection is also something to look for, as if it is continuously operated for more than two minutes, then the motors can get really hot. It is necessary that it stops the system automatically until the temperature settles down.

Although it is really helpful to have support for such elevations, the practical use cases are really handful and not something we use everyday.

Ensure that your desk supports at least three memory presets, so we can switch accordingly.

One for sitting, one for standing and another for kids or someone varies a lot in height.

Mine came with three memory slot buttons, a lift up and a lift down button and one to set the current height to one of the memory buttons.

Things to consider while buying

• If you feel, people with average height are going to use the desk, you may look for a two stage lift instead of a three stage and save some money.
• Prefer dual motors over a single one.
• Ensure it has safety features such as Anti Collision Detection Mechanism, Overheat Protection, Auto Balance Protection and basic Cable Management provisions.
• The more the warranty period, the better the peace of mind.
